Why does it matter how? That's a rather macabre fascination. What you need to know, writer, is that you were 5. This makes you, in the eyes of the law, the world, the APA, and pretty much anyone not to be held liable for your actions. I'm so sorry you've had to deal with the guilt of this tragic loss. I hope you find healing.

I know you must feel so guilty, but it really wasn't your fault. You were practically a baby yourself.

maybe carrying this around makes you a nice and considerate person to others now? maybe it had a positive outcome as well as the obvious negative one.

Who knows what really happened. The mind and memories of a five year old are not trustworthy, especially in this kind of situation.
A five year old has the logic of "i killed my brother because i forgot to turn off the bathroom light". Not really reliable, if you know what i mean.
the death was accidental, according to the post. So it's not like it was a pillow over the face to rub out the competition for mommy's attention. I smell bullshit.

I'm sorry to hear that, hopefully this will always remind you to never let your jealousy get the best of you

my dad recently backed over our dog, therefore killing him. but the thing is, my dog, shadow, was black, and it was nighttime. my dear father had no hope of seeing the poor old thing. the point is, my dad feels very bad. its called false guilt, and thats what you have. you were 5, and knew no better. you werent planning to kill him, so therefore, my dear, there is no need to feel guilty =) Seth C.
